Contributing to censorship circumvention projects

We’ve been thinking about getting some cheap servers in countries where there’s a severe lack of Tor/I2P relays for a while. Our main challenge is finding hosting providers in those countries that are willing to accommodate the amount of abuse reports we’re going to receive, while being relatively inexpensive.

Countries like Serbia, Slovakia and Mexico seem to have little to no Tor relays at all. Mexico is especially close to Central/South American countries with authoritarian regimes that suppress speech and would greatly benefit from a nearby relay.

Providers on the cheaper end already have plenty of relays hosted with them in other countries, which would centralize the network at only a few providers, making the network less resilient from attacks and traffic inspection.
